UNDERSTANDING THE EFFECTS OF FRICTION

What you are seeing in the pictures is students of Grade 6 learning about the effects of friction. Friction is something we experience everyday, but understanding it, let alone explaining it, gets tricky.

Therefore, various forms of experiments are conducted and guided by experienced teachers at SNA, to help teach the concept of friction and make it easier for our students to understand.

A FUN & HANDS-ON SCIENCE EXPERIMENT OF GRADE 8

During the Science lesson for Grade 8 last month, students examined the physical and chemical changes by conducting different chemical reactions in SNA’s very own Bio-Chemistry Lab.

PYP EXHIBITION | SNA 360°

The Primary Years Programme (PYP) Exhibition is a celebration of the knowledge, skills, and attributes that Grade 5 students have developed throughout PYP.
Students engage in collaboration, transdisciplinary inquiry process in identifying, investigating, and offering solutions to real-life issues or problems. It is a process that involves students starting with their personal interests, narrowing down their research while working together as a team, and using the inquiry cycle to independently learn.
In addition to independent learning and giving full agency to the students, each student discovers personality traits that they rely on using the Learner Profile and the Approaches to Learning through constant reflection while working on this Exhibition.
This Exhibition is a wonderful celebration and learning experience for the students, teachers, and the whole school community.

WHAT CAN WE DO TO SUBSTITUTE PLASTIC BAGS?

For the past 3 months, the Grade 8A1 students have been developing an environment-targeted project. The main purpose of the project is to substitute plastic bags which can decompose into microplastic, threatening millions of sea creatures. SNA students came up with a solution of using fabric tote bags decorated with meaningful messages about protecting the environment.

This project is an approach to the environment that the subject of Design (MYP) consists of. A project of the MYP Design subject is developed in 4 stages:
1. Inquiring and Analysis
2. Developing Ideas
3. Creating the solution
4. Evaluating.
The exhibition ‘Saving the planet’ represents the last stage of the design process as the products are displayed by the students to receive feedback and evaluation from their teachers and peers.
