When stepping into IB learning spaces at SNA Saigon South, many parents will immediately notice differences from a traditional learning setting. In the IB philosophy, the learning environment is more than just a place where lessons take place; it is intentionally designed to support student agency, collaboration, and inquiry-based learning. Here are some of the key features commonly found in IB learning spaces at SNA Saigon South.

1. Flexible Learning Spaces for Different Learning Experiences

Instead of rows of desks facing the teacher, classrooms are arranged flexibly to support a variety of learning activities, including group discussions, project work, presentations, and independent study. Furniture can be easily reconfigured to suit the objectives of each lesson.

This design reflects the nature of the IB programme, where students regularly collaborate with peers, exchange ideas, and work together to solve real-world problems through inquiry and project-based learning.

2. Learning Resources and Learning Spaces Within Easy Reach

One of the defining characteristics of an IB learning environment is encouraging students to take ownership of their learning by actively seeking the resources they need. At SNA Saigon South, students have access to a variety of learning spaces beyond the classroom.

The school features two age-appropriate libraries, including a dedicated library for PYP students and another for MYP and DP students. Each library offers a carefully curated collection of books, resources, and study areas tailored to the developmental needs and interests of its learners.

In addition, specialist facilities such as science laboratories, art rooms, music rooms, technology areas, and creative spaces serve as extended learning environments where students can research, experiment, practise skills, and bring their ideas to life.

3. Spaces That Support Emotional Well-Being and Self-Regulation

Learning is not only about acquiring knowledge; it is also closely connected to students’ emotional and personal development. For this reason, many IB classrooms include dedicated spaces where students can take a moment to reset and refocus when needed.

These areas allow students to pause, recognise their emotions, and regain their concentration before returning to learning activities. Such practices help develop self-awareness and self-management skills, which are essential for lifelong growth and success.

4. Classroom Walls That Reflect the Learning Journey

Unlike classrooms where walls are used primarily for decoration, many IB classrooms use wall space to showcase student learning and thinking.

Parents may see mind maps, inquiry questions, writing samples, projects, or class agreements created collaboratively by students. The IB Learner Profile attributes and key concepts are also often displayed throughout the classroom to support students’ learning and reflection.

These displays highlight not only final outcomes but also the process of inquiry, experimentation, and idea development over time. As a result, the classroom becomes a dynamic learning environment where students can revisit and reflect on their learning journey every day.

SNA Saigon South Continually Enhances Learning Environment

As an IB World School since 2022, 51³Ô¹Ï¹Ù·½App (SNA) Saigon South continually develops and refines its learning environment to help students maximise their creativity, critical thinking, and sense of agency. For many families, exploring the International Baccalaureate (IB) for the first time can be both exciting and overwhelming. That is completely understandable.

The IB approach often looks quite different from the traditional education model that many parents experienced themselves. From inquiry-based learning and interdisciplinary units to collaborative projects and student agency, it is natural to wonder how these approaches support academic success and personal growth.

As parents, we all want to make informed decisions about our children’s education. The questions below are some of the most common ones we receive from families who are considering the IB journey.

1. If there are no fixed textbooks, how can I know what my child is learning?

The IB goes beyond a single textbook. Rather than relying on one source of information, students learn through a variety of high-quality and up-to-date resources from around the world. This helps them develop the ability to research, evaluate information, and think critically about what they learn.

To help parents stay connected to their child’s learning journey, the school provides a Unit Overview at the beginning of each unit. This gives families a clear understanding of the concepts, knowledge, and skills being explored, making it easier to continue meaningful conversations at home.

2. Why are students always moving around and talking in groups? Is the classroom lacking discipline?

What parents often see is not disorder, but a productive learning environment where students are actively discussing ideas, experimenting, and solving problems together.

In the IB, discipline is not defined simply by sitting quietly and listening. It is also about self-management, responsibility, respect for others, and the ability to make thoughtful choices. Students are encouraged to take ownership of their learning and are expected to be accountable for the classroom culture they help create.

3. If the Units of Inquiry combine different subjects, will my child still build strong foundations in Math and Science?

Absolutely.

Core subjects such as Mathematics and Science are taught with clear academic standards and rigor. The difference is that students are encouraged to apply their learning in meaningful, real-world contexts.

Rather than seeing subjects as separate boxes, students learn how knowledge connects across disciplines. This often leads to deeper understanding, stronger retention, and a greater appreciation for why what they learn matters beyond the classroom.

4. Why is there so much group work? What if my child ends up doing all the work?

Collaboration is one of the most important skills students will need in their future studies, careers, and personal lives. However, students are not simply placed into groups and left to figure things out on their own.

Teachers use a variety of strategies to ensure individual accountability, including clearly defined roles, ongoing observations, peer feedback, and individual assessments. Just as importantly, learning how to work with different personalities, navigate challenges, and resolve disagreements helps students develop communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills that cannot be learned from a textbook alone.

5. If teachers mainly ask questions instead of giving answers, what is their role? Will quieter students be left behind?

In an IB classroom, teachers are guides and facilitators of learning rather than simply providers of information. Through carefully designed questions and learning experiences, they help students develop curiosity, critical thinking, and the confidence to explore ideas independently.

This does not mean students are left to figure everything out by themselves. Teachers continuously monitor progress and provide support tailored to each learner’s needs. For quieter students or those who need more guidance, there are always structures and strategies in place to ensure they feel supported, included, and successful.

At the heart of every parent’s decision is the same question: What kind of person will my child become?

While academic achievement remains important, many families are also looking for an education that helps children become confident, adaptable, compassionate, and capable of navigating an ever-changing world.

That is the goal of the IB. Beyond preparing students for exams, it aims to nurture lifelong learners who are equipped with the knowledge, skills, and mindset to thrive in the future – wherever their journey may take them.

As a leading IB World School and international school in Ho Chi Minh City, SNA Saigon South Campus offers the full IB continuum from PYP, MYP to DP, empowering students to become confident, independent, and globally minded learners. Conveniently located in District 7, SNA is a trusted choice for families exploring Saigon South international school options, seeking an IB school in Ho Chi Minh City, or searching for the best international school in Saigon for their child’s future.

The graduation ceremony marked the culmination of two years of rigorous academic study and personal growth. To earn the IB Diploma, students must successfully complete six subject groups across both Standard Level (SL) and Higher Level (HL), as well as three core requirements: Theory of Knowledge (TOK), a 4,000-word independent research paper known as the Extended Essay (EE), and the Creativity, Activity, Service (CAS) project. The academic rigor of the programme is often considered comparable to first-year university-level coursework at many prestigious educational institutions around the world.

Due to its strong emphasis on critical thinking, independent research, and effective time management, the IB Diploma is recognized by more than 4,500 universities across 110 countries and is widely regarded as a valuable advantage in university admissions and scholarship applications worldwide.

Jerry H., Valedictorian of the IBDP Class of 2026 at SNA Saigon South. Photo: SNA Saigon South

According to SNA Saigon South, this year’s graduates have received university offers from institutions across the United States, Canada, Australia, Europe, and other regions. As they take the next step in their academic journeys, many have chosen to pursue highly competitive fields of study, including Finance, Computer Science, Psychology, Pharmacy, Business, and Engineering.

Reflecting on his journey, Jerry H., Valedictorian of the Class of 2026, shared: “The IB was undoubtedly a challenging journey, but it helped me build a strong academic foundation and develop many of the skills I will need for university. At SNA, I learned to think independently and critically, which means constantly asking questions, conducting research, and examining issues from different perspectives. The school also gave us opportunities to explore our interests, participate in extracurricular activities, and take on leadership roles, all of which have helped me become more confident about the path ahead.â€

Graduating from the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme signifies that all SNA Saigon South students have successfully met the internationally standardized assessment criteria established by the International Baccalaureate Organization (IBO). As they embark on the next chapter of their educational journeys, the Class of 2026 leaves SNA equipped with the knowledge, skills, and global perspective developed through one of the world’s most rigorous secondary education programmes, preparing them to thrive at universities and in careers around the world.

51³Ô¹Ï¹Ù·½App (SNA) – Saigon South Campus has recently achieved accreditation from the Council of 51³Ô¹Ï¹Ù·½Apps (CIS), been reaccredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC), and received reauthorization from the International Baccalaureate Organization (IBO) to continue offering the International Baccalaureate (IB) programmes.

These outcomes reflect the school’s ongoing efforts to maintain educational quality in accordance with internationally recognized standards.

Commenting on these achievements, Dr. Robert Mullins, Head of School at SNA Saigon South Campus, shared:

SNA Saigon South has achieved CIS accreditation. Photo: SNA Saigon South.

“These joint milestones are much more than badges of academic and institutional excellence; they represent a guaranteed global passport for every student. When CIS, WASC, and IB collectively validate SNA Saigon South, it means that every transcript, achievement, and character our students build here carry unassailable currency throughout the world.”

To achieve these results, SNA Saigon South underwent comprehensive reviews conducted by independent international education experts. The evaluations covered a broad range of areas, including academic programmes, teaching quality, faculty capacity, student wellbeing and safety, governance systems, school culture, and engagement with parents and the wider community.

Since 2022, SNA Saigon South has been authorized to offer the full continuum of International Baccalaureate programmes and has participated in regular evaluation cycles required by the IBO. Following its most recent review, the school was reauthorized to continue delivering all three IB programmes.

According to the IBO evaluation report, SNA Saigon South demonstrated clear systems, policies, and procedures for programme implementation. Teaching and learning were noted for their connection to real-world contexts, supporting students in developing knowledge, skills, and independent learning capabilities.

In addition, CIS accreditation recognizes the school’s overall performance across a range of operational and educational standards. The evaluation highlighted a safe learning environment, a positive school culture, facilities that support teaching and learning, and strong engagement from the parent community.

SNA Saigon South was also successfully reaccredited by WASC, a U.S.-based accrediting body. The reaccreditation confirms that the school continues to meet established standards in educational quality, governance, and operational effectiveness while maintaining a commitment to continuous improvement.

Within a school environment that is regularly reviewed through international accreditation processes, students benefit not only from internationally recognized academic programmes but also from opportunities to engage in project-based learning, extracurricular activities, and authentic learning experiences.

Today, SNA Saigon South is one of the few schools in Vietnam authorized to offer all three International Baccalaureate programmes: the Primary Years Programme (PYP), Middle Years Programme (MYP), and Diploma Programme (DP). This continuum enables students to progress through a consistent educational framework while building a foundation for future university and career pathways.

According to Dr. Mullins, maintaining international standards is not a destination but an ongoing journey of improvement:

“The world our students will inherit does not reward passive compliance; it rewards adaptive resilience. In the coming years, SNA Saigon South is aggressively deepening our focus on data-driven, individualized learner pathways. We are actively refining our academic integrity frameworks to integrate emerging technologies such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), transforming them into tools for critical thinking rather than shortcuts.â€

With international accreditation and recognition from CIS, WASC, and the IBO, SNA Saigon South continues to strengthen its position as one of the leading international schools in Ho Chi Minh City for families seeking a globally recognised education. As one of the few schools in Vietnam authorised to offer the full IB Continuum, including the Primary Years Programme (PYP), Middle Years Programme (MYP), and Diploma Programme (DP), SNA provides a seamless educational pathway for students aged 5 to 18.

For families searching for an 51³Ô¹Ï¹Ù·½App Ho Chi Minh City, 51³Ô¹Ï¹Ù·½App District 7, IB School Ho Chi Minh City, or International Baccalaureate School Ho Chi Minh City, SNA Saigon South stands out with its multicultural learning environment, experienced international educators, and globally recognised academic programmes. Choosing the right school is about more than academic results. Today’s students need confidence, critical thinking skills, adaptability, and a global perspective to thrive in an increasingly connected world.

As a fully authorized International Baccalaureate (IB) Continuum School in Ho Chi Minh City, SNA Saigon South provides students with a seamless educational journey from primary through secondary school. Through the internationally recognized IB framework, students develop the knowledge, skills, and character needed for success both in school and beyond.

Here are five things every parent should know about the IB Programme at SNA.

1. The IB Focuses on the Whole Child

The IB believes education should help students become well-rounded individuals, not simply achieve high grades.

Through the IB Learner Profile, students develop qualities such as curiosity, integrity, resilience, open-mindedness, and reflection. These attributes encourage children to become confident learners who can think independently, collaborate effectively, and contribute positively to their communities.

By balancing academic achievement with personal development, the IB helps students build a strong foundation for lifelong success.

2. Students Develop a Global Mindset

One of the defining features of the International Baccalaureate is its focus on international-mindedness.

Students learn to appreciate different cultures, perspectives, and ways of thinking while developing the skills needed to thrive in an increasingly global society.

At SNA Saigon South, students have opportunities to learn multiple languages, including English, Korean, Chinese, and French. Through language learning, cultural exploration, and community service projects, students gain a deeper understanding of both local and global issues.

This global perspective helps students become responsible, compassionate, and culturally aware citizens.

3. The IB Provides a Seamless Learning Journey

The IB offers a continuous educational framework that supports students from early childhood through university preparation.

The Primary Years Programme (PYP) for students aged 3 to 12 encourages curiosity and inquiry-based learning, helping students make meaningful connections across different subject areas.

The Middle Years Programme (MYP) for students aged 11 to 16 builds critical-thinking skills and encourages students to connect their learning to real-world issues and global challenges.

The Diploma Programme (DP) for students aged 16 to 19 is recognized by leading universities worldwide and combines academic rigour with research, communication, and analytical skills that prepare students for higher education and future careers.

As a fully authorized IB Continuum School in Ho Chi Minh City, SNA Saigon South provides students with consistency and continuity throughout their educational journey.

4. Learning Goes Beyond Memorization

The IB encourages students to ask questions, investigate ideas, and apply their learning in meaningful ways.

Rather than focusing solely on memorizing information, students develop a deeper understanding of concepts and learn how to transfer knowledge across different subjects and real-world situations.

Throughout the programme, students strengthen essential life skills, including critical thinking, research, communication, collaboration, and self-management.

These transferable skills help students become independent learners who are prepared for future academic and professional success.

5. Assessment Supports Growth and Achievement

Assessment in the IB is designed to measure understanding, application, and growth rather than simple recall of facts.

Students demonstrate their learning through a variety of methods, including projects, presentations, investigations, and written assessments. This balanced approach allows students to showcase their strengths while developing higher-order thinking skills.

At the end of each programme, students complete a significant culminating project, including the PYP Exhibition, MYP Personal Project, and DP Extended Essay. These experiences encourage students to pursue areas of interest, conduct independent research, and reflect on their learning journey.

By combining academic rigour with meaningful reflection, IB assessment helps students build confidence and prepare for lifelong learning.

Why Families Choose SNA Saigon South

Located in District 7, Ho Chi Minh City, SNA offers a supportive international learning environment where students are encouraged to discover their strengths, pursue their passions, and become confident global citizens.
